Una quindicina d'anni fa ho scoperto la produzione di Meredith Monk, un'artista multidisciplinare statunitense: compositrice, cantante, egista, coreografa, attrice. Nella sua musica esplora le infinite possibilitá della voce umana, portandola a vertici di incredibile virtuosismo. La base musicale è essenziale, in questo caso una sorta di tela scura sulla quale la voce traccia segni di varia intensità: Monk ha inventato un suo lessico sonoro preverbale , fatto di nenie, melismi religiosi, grida, lamenti, sospiri, ululati animaleschi, risa. "I don't know" è un canto che esprime stupore, spaesamento, parla dei "non so" in cui possiamo incappare nella vita; almeno io la leggo così. Ci sono giorni in cui proprio non so ...e mi sento come questa melodia: spiazzato, triste e infine placato, fino al prossimo giro.
Ammetto, è roba forte, non è facile da digerire.
