"Edward Bunker died of complications after surgery at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, California on July 19. He had been suffering from cancer and diabetes. He went into San Quentin at 17 for bank robbery and car theft, and wrote novels and short stories in the joint. His first published novel, NO BEAST SO FIERCE (1973), was turned into the Dustin Hoffman movie, "Straight Time." He was released from the prison at age 38 and started writing screenplays ("Runaway Train" and "Animal Factory") and acting as Eddie Bunker ("Reservoir Dogs" and "The Longest Yard"). Well, his father was a stage hand and his mother was a chorus girl. His wrote his autobiography MR. BLUE: MEMOIRS OF A RENEGADE (1999). He was 71. (July 21, 2005) "
