Values and prejudice: Predictors of attitudes towards Australian Aborigines.
By: Feather, N. T.; McKee, Ian R.. Australian Journal of Psychology, Sep2008, Vol. 60 Issue 2, p80-90, 11p, 2 charts, 2 diagrams Abstract: This study related prejudice towards Australian Aborigines to value types assessed by the Schwartz Value Survey (SVS), right-wing authoritarianism (RWA), and social dominance orientation (SDO). One hundred and forty-eight students in Adelaide, South Australia, completed a Modern Racism Scale adapted for Australian Aborigines, the SVS, the RWA Scale, and the SDO Scale. We predicted that prejudice would be positively related to the importance of self-enhancement and conservation values from the SVS such as power and security and negatively related to the importance of self-transcendence values such as universalism and benevolence. Relations between the prejudice measures and RWA and SDO were also expected to reflect their degree of overlap with discrete value types from the SVS. These predictions were supported. Results were discussed in relation to the importance of considering how prejudice relates to a person's specific value priorities as well as to more general value variables such as RWA and SDO. A new archival approach to the study of values and value--Behavior relations: Validation of the value lexicon.
Bardi, Anat; Calogero, Rachel M.; Mullen, Brian; Journal of Applied Psychology, Vol 93(3), May 2008. pp. 483-497. [Journal Article] Abstract: The present effort employs a new archival approach to study values and value- behavior relations, which is likely to be particularly useful in applied settings. A value lexicon was developed on the basis of the Schwartz (1992) value theory to extract lexical indicators of values from texts. The convergent, discriminant, and predictive validity of this measure was established using American newspaper content from 1900 to 2000 vis-ŕ-vis existing self-report measures of values and objective indicators of value-expressive behaviors. Results provide empirical support for the use of the value lexicon to study values and value- behavior relations. First, the value lexicon demonstrated convergence with self-report responses of values. Second, values in American newspapers were associated with objective indicators of their corresponding value-expressive behaviors compared with noncorresponding value- expressive behaviors. Third, patterns of values over this 101-year period exhibited meaningful fluctuations with major historical and political events. The discussion describes new possibilities for future research on values in many applied settings with the value lexicon. The discussion also suggests that the principles of the value lexicon could be adopted to measure other psychological constructs of interest to applied psychology. In Search of a Comprehensive Value Model for Assessing Supplementary Person—Organization Fit.
By: De Clercq, Stefaan; Fontaine, Johnny R.J.; Anseel, Frederik. Journal of Psychology, May2008, Vol. 142 Issue 3, p277-302, 26p, 4 charts, 2 diagrams Abstract: In this study, the authors tested the comprehensiveness of the S. H. Schwartz (1992) value model as a conceptual framework for assessing supplementary person—organization fit. They conducted an extensive literature search in which they identified 42 value instruments or typologies that are used to measure life, work, or organizational values. Experts judged whether each of 1,578 items from these 42 instruments could be regarded as an indicator of 1 of the 10 value types identified by S. H. Schwartz (1992). The authors found that (a) 92.5% of the items could be classified into 1 of the 10 value types and (b) the remaining items suggested 2 possible new types (goal orientedness and relations). The authors also found indications that 2 value types could be split to obtain a more univocal meaning. Overall, these findings suggest that the S. H. Schwartz (1992) value model might be an appropriate comprehensive framework for studying supplementary person—organization fit. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] (AN 32193187)
Creativity and Values.
By: Dollinger, Stephen J.; Burke, Philip A.; Gump, Nathaniel W.. Creativity Research Journal, 2007, Vol. 19 Issue 2/3, p91-103, 12p, 1 chart, 1 diagram Abstract: Barron (1997) and Helson (1990) independently have suggested that a central element in all forms of creativity is the desire or goal to be creative, implying creativity as a core value. Based on these assertions and Schwartz's (1992) theory, we tested the prediction that creative individuals will hold a different values system than their less creative counterparts. University students (N=278) completed the Schwartz Values Survey (Schwartz, 1992), as well as a behaviorally-based self-report measure of creative accomplishments. At separate occasions, 134 of these participants also devised three creative products rated by the consensual assessment method. In keeping with prediction, creative accomplishments and products correlated significantly not only with the self-direction value composite (both including and excluding the individual item creativity), but also universalism and stimulation. Accomplishments and products correlated negatively with the value composites of tradition, security, and power. These results support the view that creativity is grounded in values, and support Schwartz's model of the dynamic structure of values as a predictor of behavior. Values and Creativity.
By: Kasof, Joseph; Chuansheng Chen; Himsel, Amy; Greenberger, Ellen. Creativity Research Journal, 2007, Vol. 19 Issue 2/3, p105-122, 17p, 2 charts, 1 diagram, 2 graphs Abstract: Does extrinsic motivation inhibit or foster creativity? Whereas previous researchers examined the effects of externally controlled extrinsic motivation on creativity, we focus on the effects of self-determined extrinsic motivation arising from one's personally held core values. In this study, we present a theoretical argument which predicts that (a) creative behavior is fostered by certain value types, inhibited by other value types, and holistically related to the total integrative-dynamic pattern of value types identified by Schwartz (1994), and (b) creative performance is synergistically promoted by the interaction between the Self-Direction value type and intrinsic motivational orientation. These hypotheses were tested in a study of 248 undergraduates whose value priorities and intrinsic motivational orientation were measured by self-report and whose creative performance was assessed across multiple tasks in the verbal, artistic, and mathematical domains. All predictions were supported. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] DOI: 10.1080/10400410701397164 (AN 25779002)
Buona vita

ciao ho visto l'argomento della tua tesi, avresti dei test per capire quali sono i bisogni e valori di una persona?
grazie mille sonia :)
