Grazie mille

Qualche articolo che può esservi utile, spero:
Hospitalization stress in children: Sensitizer and repressor coping styles.
Field, Tiffany; Alpert, Bené; Vega-Lahr, Nitza; Goldstein, Sheri; Perry, Susan; Health Psychology, Vol 7(5), 1988. pp. 433-445. [Journal Article] Abstract: To examine the effects of individual sensitizer/repressor coping styles on responses to hospital procedures, 56 4–10 yr olds were observed during hospitalization for minor surgery. Although the sensitizer children, as classified by the mothers on the Sensitizer/Repressor Scale for Children, did not differ from the repressor Ss on baseline measures including hospital preparation, they were more talkative, expressive, and active during hospital play observations. During blood tests and preoperative injections, the sensitizers, compared with the repressors, were reported by their mothers to observe the procedures, to seek additional information about the procedures, and to show more protest behaviors. Sensitizers required fewer hours of intensive care. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2009 APA, all rights reserved)
Coping skills training for children: Effects on distress before, during, and after hospitalization for surgery.
Zastowny, Thomas R.; Kirschenbaum, Daniel S.; Meng, Anne L.; Health Psychology, Vol 5(3), 1986. Special issue: Child health psychology. pp. 231-247. [Journal Article] Abstract: Tested the hypothesis that coping skills (COS) intervention would help children adapt to hospitalization better than anxiety reduction (AR) or information interventions, using 33 parent–child dyads (children's mean age 7.2 yrs). All groups received the information procedure that described hospitalization and surgery experiences via a puppetry film. In the AR group, parents also learned procedures to help them reduce their own distress. Parents in the COS group learned how to help children use coping self-talk and related techniques. Results show that the AR and COS groups, compared to the information group, reduced children's self-reported fearfulness and parents' reported distress. The COS group, compared to the information group, exhibited fewer maladaptive behaviors during hospitalization and less problematic behavior in the preadmission week and 2nd postdischarge week. An information seeking disposition in child surgery patients.
Peterson, Lizette; Toler, Susan M.; Health Psychology, Vol 5(4), 1986. pp. 343-358. [Journal Article] Abstract: A coping strategies interview was used to assign an information seeking (IS) score to 59 child elective surgery patients (aged 62–134 mo). This score was related to parent ratings of the child"s typical coping behaviors and preference for information acquisition; to question asking and discussion of medical procedures as rated by an observer during the blood test, by the nurse during anesthesia induction, and by the parent during recovery from surgery; to the information acquired prior to hospitalization; and to stress responses. High IS scores predicted more adaptive behaviors prior to the blood test. This cross-rater and cross-situation validation suggests the existence of an IS dimension in children.
Fondazione ABIO Italia Onlus
